Jennifer Haakenson, MLIS University of Washington
Hello, my name is Jennifer Haakenson (She/Her) and I am a second year MLIS student at the University of Washington in Seattle. The Directed Fieldwork I will be doing this quarter is to assist in research design and implementation, assist in programming development, and support the Read-a-Rama summer camp online and in-person activities. My goal is to work with Dr. Michelle Martin and the Read-a-Rama research and assessment team to gain stronger research skills, continue to build my knowledge in DEI and childrens literature, and engage with/support our local community. Together the team will design the scope of the study and determine research methods and collect data to aid with Read-a-Rama's future programming possibilities and advancement.
Read-a-Rama is a childrens literacy program designed to help foster and create a love of reading for children of all ages. It includes active participation in read-alouds, crafting and cooking, music and dance, and community fellowship. As the Read-a-Rama website claimes, children "live books" where creativity, curiosity, and imagination are generated. Read more about the Read-a-Rama program here.
