Makers Space madness at Eckstein Middle School is completed for the most part. Rounding out the progress will be to put the activities in a framework notebook for the lead librarian and students to access. The majority of the weeks tasks were giving the space a freshened up look and organize the aesthetics.
Before & After Progress:
Last week I took a field trip down to Tacoma to visit Lincoln High School's library and get inspired about what they have done with their makers space. I was able to bring the lead librarian, Erin, from Eckstein Middle School. We loved what the librarian at Lincoln (Kristin) has done with the space design and ideas. Students piled into the library during the lunch hours and the makers space was being utilized by about six students. At times, the library hosts special activities and it's always a big hit with the students. One of the design aspects about the space that inspired Erin and me was how there was a big table in the center of the makers space, which allowed for students to work together in community. The space at Eckstein had two-person tables all spread out. Now they are grouped together to encourage more students to create more collaboratively!

Over the next few weeks that I have left in the DFW, I will be focusing on collection development, specifically putting together a social justice section!
